How did you get into bodybuilding? I got into bodybuilding years ago just to stay fit and healthy. I love the rush of a great workout and love seeing the transformation of my body. I became more serious recently because I didn’t want to have any regrets later. Competing was something that I’ve always wanted to accomplish but I didn’t have the confidence to get up on stage. I have to say that my sister was a huge inspiration to me, she lost a lot of weight and entered a competition and won! I was so proud of her and her incredible accomplishment. She really encouraged me to go for my dreams as well. With the support of her and my husband there was no stopping me so I headed to my first competition. What are your current stats? My height is 5′ 3 1/2″ – 36″ 33 DD chest, 23″ waist, 34″hips – My weight is about 113 off season and 111 contest weight and 6-7% body fat. Where does your motivation come from? A lot of my motivation comes from my friends that say I’ve inspired them to get involved in the fitness industry, hearing that fuels me to gain more knowledge so I can continue to help others with their goals. Other competitors and fitness athletes who are working hard and excelling in the industry are all so inspiring to me. I enjoy seeing people pursue their gaols and love to see the confidence it instills in ...

What inspired you to begin competitive bodybuilding? I started off on my journey towards self improvement with working out regularly. I enjoyed being fit and watching my body transform. Even though many people thought I should try competitive bodybuilding, I never really thought about it until I was bored one day and thought it would be a great way to push myself to new limits. Since then I’ve hit the ground running. I have competed in 5 different shows (Fitness star, model America and WBFF), and I plan on competing in more this year! Who inspires you? What inspired me to initially change and to start weight lifting was actually the actors in the movie 300. I want to have the body of a warrior, chiselled and muscular. Another inspiration of mine is the late Zyzz. Zyzz was someone who always looked to push forward in life, no matter how many people tried to put him down. What was your experience like at WBFF 2011? The WBFF was my first competition so I was very nervous about putting myself out there to be judged. My competition was impressive. There was roughly 70 competitors in my amateur division. Unfortunately I did not place, but it was still an amazing experience meeting so many like minded and helpful people. What are your current stats? 5’6” 148lbs Around 6% body fat Squat- 315 for 10 Dumb bell press-125 for 8 How do you stay motivated? I stay motivated by setting goals. My goal ...

How did you get into bodybuilding? I got into weightlifting to get stronger and bigger to play competitive rugby! I ended up loving the gym as much as I loved the game, so when I retired, I decided to combine both the competitive nature of sport, with the gym, and so took up natural bodybuilding… What are your current stats? Ht. 183cm Wt. Competition: 84-85kgs at 5%Bf, Off Season 89-90kgs at 9-10%Bf. 1RMax: Bench 140kgs, Pull Up +65kgs, Squat 170kgs, Deadlift 205kgs. 5km Run: 19m40. How do you stay motivated? I get asked this a lot, and I always answer the same way: I actually just love to train! If I don’t have time to lift, I make time… it’s so ingrained in my life, I can’t imagine not doing it! I run on off season, just because I enjoy it… I only rest because science has proven it is better for you… if I had it my way, I would train all the time!!! Motivation has never been an issue for me, and I hope it remains that way… What is your diet like? Diet is pretty clean: eat a lot of meats, fish, seeds, eggs, vegtables and grains/ legumes! I am of the grazing not fasting mould, so eat every 2-4 hours… I try to avoid sugars, and drink loads of water! I have had some great results using carb cycling, so often use this for a few weeks before a competition or shoot to really dry out! ...

How did you get into bodybuilding? As a young teen I was athletic, but my love for food and overindulging always negated my athleticism. I have always had an interest in this lifestyle since I was around 17. I recently turned 24 but in the past I never trained with purpose or intention, it was more as a hobby. I will never forget when my brothers Mike and Jay told me they would give me $20 to do one real pull-up. I couldn’t make this up. I tried my hardest; I ran, jumped, but couldn’t get myself over that bar. I even struggled to do one solid pushup! To this day I have successfully done over 100 in a row – I think it is time for me to see if they can do that, hell I’ll give them $50 (don’t tell them I said that). It wasn’t until the end of my sophomore year in High School that I realized I needed to make a change. My wardrobe consisted of 15 hoodies that I cycled through daily because I was too insecure to wear a t-shirt most of the time. If there were a pool party, trip to the beach/waterpark, or even swimming in the pool with friends I would try my hardest to avoid going, and yes I did swim with my shirt on. I didn’t even like to look at myself; I was insecure, self-conscious and thought it was going to be like that forever. I would ...

How did you get into bodybuilding? I got into body building in 9th grade because I played football and it was necessary to get to where I wanted to be athletically. While it definitely helped me get faster and a lot stronger that ended up being a gateway to more pure body building and eventually fitness modeling. When it comes to fitness modeling I credit John Daly, a talent scout in South Florida and photographer Michael Anthony Downs for helping me break into the industry and get myself established. What bodybuilder/who inspires you? The only actual body builder I could say I have been inspired by is Arnold, I have never wanted to look like the big name body builders of today, while I respect them its never been the look I’ve been after. Growing up really my biggest inspirations were pro wrestler Shawn Michaels and being from Philadelphia, former Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham and current quarterback Michael Vick. What are your current stats? My current weight is between 185 and 190 and my bodyfat is probably between 4-7%. I don’t max ever but will usually go up to about 450 for 8 reps on free weight squat, 305 for 8 reps on bench, and 1,000 for 8 on leg press. I don’t attempt to go much heavier than that mainly to avoid injury. How do you stay motivated? Seeing results and having success in modeling is what keeps me motivated. Results can be noticing gains in strength or ...

How did you get into bodybuilding? As a former competitive gymnast, I was accustomed to living a healthy, active lifestyle. Going to gymnastics practice 5-6 days a week was something I had been doing since the age of 3, so once injuries forced me to hang up my competition leotard, I needed an outlet for my energy and athleticism. My sophomore year of high school I got my license to drive- and promptly drove myself right over to a health club to sign up for a membership! Never having worked out with weights a day before in my life, I was intimidated and had no idea what to expect, what or how to lift or operate the machines, etc. Luckily I received two complimentary workouts with a trainer upon joining my membership and was taught a few basics and at least could walk around the gym without looking lost. However, after a week or so of aimless workouts, I picked up copies of Oxygen, Muscle and Fitness and Muscle and Fitness Hers magazines in order to seek more direction. I was inspired and motivated by the strong and lean physiques of the women on the pages and covers- I immediately decided that was what I wanted and set out to achieve my ideal physique. After following an example meal plan and workouts that Monica Brant had featured in one of my favorite fitness magazines, I began to see results! I was stronger, leaner, my physique was tighter- progress! I was ...

How Did You Get Into Fitness And Competing? I was always active but once I started my career as a Dental Hygienist I found myself out of shape and in dire need of a goal. Shortly after, a girlfriend and I decided to do our first fitness competition in 2009. It was a blast. By always setting new goals helps me to stay motivated, this gives you something to work towards! What Is Your Diet Like? I generally eat 5-6 small meals daily allowing myself one cheat meal per week. My diet consists of lean proteins- chicken, steak, salmon, egg whites and tuna. I also eat healthy carbs such as Quiona, rice, sweet potatoes and oats. I have fruit in my diet as well as healthy fats such as almonds, and avocados. I am only human and when I get a cheat meal i make sure to indulge. My favorite cheat meal is ice cream or cookies , yummy. What is your current routine?
Stretching the tape at an incredible 58″, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s chest had everything: size, shape, balance and definition. When he hit a side chest pose, his pecs arched so high that a glass of water could rest atop them. When he crunched into a most-muscular shot, his chest would split into four discernible masses. Right and left upper and right and left lower. Each raked with myriad striations and crisscrossed by snaking veins. Over the past 30 years, bodybuilding fans have witnessed tremendous growth in their sport not only in the number of participants and ever-increasing popularity with the public, but in the size of its competitors, as well. Backs have become broader, thighs more massive and sweeping, triceps thicker and more striated. As with disciplines ranging from technology to medicine to architecture, the passage of time has brought to bodybuilding new levels of excellence in both practice and form. Combination Of Back And Chest When Joe Weider recited to two-time defending Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger the names of the athletes scheduled to challenge him in the 1972 competition, it sounded like a roll call for a bodybuilding hall of fame: Sergio Oliva, Franco Columbu, Frank Zane and Serge Nubret. Arnold knew it would be by far his toughest challenge to date and realized that he would have to take his physique to a new level to remain the king. Remembering the tremendous results he experienced from training his chest and back together, and armed with a higher education of ...

Building huge legs is by no means easy. While some people have genetically large quads and calves, others are not as fortunate and commonly don’t train them because as people in a lot of gym’s say, “It’s not fun to train legs!” That’s when you look at them and ask them if they know that squats cause your body release growth hormone, helping other body parts that they’re working 5 days a week grow. Then you will probably get the, “well I heard squats were bad for your knees. Isn’t that true?” question and you then realise its time to laugh. This article is written to discuss the largest muscle group and one of the most vital muscle groups that bodybuilders train. “How do I grow tree trunks for legs?” you may now be asking. Well not to worry since TooToned is here to help those wheels grow. We will first give the important exercises for quadriceps, hamstring, and calf hypertrophy while providing insights and important links for how to do them and then will give some good sample routines and advanced techniques commonly used. Quadriceps Other names include thighs and quads. There are four heads, the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius, and the vastus medialis. It is located on the front of your upper leg above the knee. Main Exercises Barbell Squat-This is the king of all leg exercises, hell possibly all exercises period.
